BEAVER FALLS - Senior Josh Guiser (Fayette City, PA/Frazier) returned a fourth quarter kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, ending a string of 30 unanswered points by St. Vincent and giving Geneva a 34-30 win in presidents’ Athletic Conference action. In the return, Guiser set a Geneva record for career kickoff return yardage with 1898.

“We needed a play,” Guiser said. “We had blocked well on the kick return all day and I saw how they had moved to the middle. About the 20-yard line, I saw them crashing towards the middle and just followed my blocks.”

Guiser wasn’t overstating the case that Geneva needed a play. After building a 27-0 lead in the first half, Geneva started to turn the ball over and St. Vincent responded by scoring 30 straight points.

The final points in that run were a 64-yard punt return by Darius Brown that gave St. Vincent its first lead of the day. The lead lasted just 13 seconds before Guiser responded.

After that, Geneva senior Brady Beech (Grove City, PA/Grove City) took control for the defense. He made the tackle on the ensuing kickoff to stop the kick return for a score run and then intercepted a pass on the next play. He had earlier picked off a pass in the first quarter and ended St. Vincent’s final possession with his third interception of the day.

Both teams are now 3-6 overall with St. Vincent 3-4 in conference play and Geneva 2-5.

Geneva was led by sophomore Brandon Hacker (Columbiana, OH/Columbiana) with 47 yards rushing and a touchdown while freshman quarterback Aaron Channing (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) had 100 yards passing and two TDs.

Geneva closes its season next week at home against archrival Westminster at 1 p.m.
