Geneva men drop 75-62 to Hiram

Gt basketball

Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva started its men’s game at the unusual time of 5:30 to allow both teams to start Thanksgiving break early but visiting Hiram will be the team that enjoys the break more after a 75-62 Hiram win. Hiram improves to 4-0 while Geneva falls to 1-4.

Geneva had the advantage early, building a 20-12 lead with 10:52 left in the first half on a jumper by junior Nick Shelton (Hubbard, OH/Hubbard) but Hiram answered with a 9-0 run and Geneva never led again.

“We come out like barn-burners, then we start making mistakes,” said Coach Jeff Santarsiero. “We’re just not getting the production we need and it starts on the defensive end.

“This was the worst defensive effort we’ve had and we have to get better.”

Geneva was led by junior Ethan Adamczyk (Uniontown, OH/Lake) with 20 points while senior Jacob Jaros (Levittsburg, OH/LaBrae) had eight points and a game-high six rebounds. The statistics were relatively balanced except for turnovers – Geneva had 24, 10 more than Hiram, and that was basically the story of the game.

Geneva’s season continues Saturday at 3 p.m. when it visits LaRoche.
