gcm185.jpgPittsburgh, PA – After turning the ball over 24 times Tuesday night, the Geneva men cut the number of turnovers down to just six and the change made a difference. Geneva captured its first win of the season on the road 69-58 at LaRoche, improving to 2-4 on the year.

“We got back to basics and concentrated on doing things we were capable of doing,” said Geneva coach Jeff Santarsiero. “We played hard and smart and it paid off.

“Our defensive effort was ridiculously good – we held a high scoring team to 58 points. I’ll take that any time.”

The Golden Tornadoes came from behind a couple of times, both times sparking long runs. In the first half, a layup by senior Jacob Jaros (Levittsburg, OH/LaBrae) gave Geneva a 16-15 lead and sparked a 10-2 Golden Tornadoes run. In the second half, it was sophomore Chaese Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH/Lake) who made the layup to give Geneva a 35-34 lead with 16:17 left. From that point on, Geneva practically doubled its score, finishing with a 34-24 advantage.

The Golden Tornadoes were led by junior Ethan Adamczyk (Uniontown, OH/Lake) with 17 points, senior Tyler Damazo (Beaver Falls/Blackhawk) with 13, and freshman Jimmy Leichliter (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) with 10.

Geneva’s season continues Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. when Thiel visits Metheny Fieldhouse in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener.
