Beaver Falls, PA– Geneva volleyball heads to the ECAC South Region Finals today at 4 p.m. after defeating McDaniel at Carnegie Mellon University this morning with a final score of 3-1 (19-25, 28-26, 25-10, 25-22).

“Strong serving made up for some inconsistent passing,” said co-head coach Curt Conser.

“Different people stepped up throughout the match.”

Geneva’s offensive explosion was supplied by four GTs hitting double digit kills. Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) hit 14 kills, Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) hit 13, Grace Hayes (Westminster, MD/Westminster) put down 12, and Erin Smith (Sewickley, PA/Ambridge) tallied 11 kills.

In addition to her 11 kills, Smith protected Geneva’s net with four blocks.

Rachel Netherland (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) set for 33 assists in the four set match win.

On defense, Alexis Ritson (Irwin, PA/Hempfield) earned 18 digs and Brie Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) earned 16 digs for the GTs.

In less than four hours the Golden Tornadoes will be back on the court competing against the winner of the Bethany/ CMU winner. There will be consolation final at 2 p.m. followed by the ECAC South Region final at 4 p.m. with the GTs on one side of the net.
