Geneva women open with 67-56 win over Hilbert

gcwbball13105.jpgBeaver Falls, PA– Geneva overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Hilbert (NY) and win its first opener in three seasons.

“We played better in the second half and shot better in the second half,” said Geneva coach Lori Wynn. “I think it was just a case of jitters in the first half and we needed to settle in.

“It was very nice to open with a win.”

The Golden Tornadoes were led in scoring by last year’s leading scorer, Heidi Mann (junior, Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) with 18 points. Mann’s efforts were supported by 14 points from Lydia Songer (freshman, Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) and 13 from Chelsea Kauffman (New Castle, PA/Neshannock).

The Golden Tornadoes return to action Wednesday night with a home game against Wooster at 7 p.m.
