Geneva women fall to Wooster 79-63

Beaver Falls, PA– After Geneva’s Heidi Mann (junior, Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) scored on a layup to tie the game at 45-45 3:06 into the second half, Wooster went on a 7-0 run to retake control. Geneva never closed the gap, propelling the Fighting Scots to their first win of the season and handed Geneva its first loss of the year, 79-63.

“We let it get away from us,” said Geneva coach Lori Wynn. “It was a learning experience, we know now that we need to defend a little better and rebound better.

“They were a bigger team but we have to adjust to that. We did do some great things but we’re still learning.”

The Golden Tornadoes were led in scoring by Mann, last year’s leading scorer, with 18 points for the second straight game. Also scoring in double figures was sophomore Miranda Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union) with 12.

Wooster (1-2) was led by Lauren Hancher, who entered the game averaging 19 points, with 24 points.

The Golden Tornadoes, 1-1, return to action Friday night at 6:00 at Carnegie Mellon University.
