Women’s Soccer ends season with 4-1 victory over Bethany College

Bethany, WV– Geneva women’s soccer finished its season celebrating; defeating Bethany College on the road 4-1. The win allows the Golden Tornadoes to finish its season 3-15 overall, 2-7 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

“We came out strong for this game and played very well. It was an all-around team win. Our seniors played a fantastic game and will be greatly missed next year,” said head coach Linda Sumner.

The Golden Tornadoes scored four consecutive goals lead by sophomore Kimberly Orihel (Clinton, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) at the 4:03 mark, assisted by junior midfielder Heidi Mann (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy). The Orihel/Mann duo continued, doubling Geneva’s points in the 17th minute, Orihel’s seventh goal of the season, Mann’s sixth assist.

The roles switched five minutes later, Mann finding the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season assisted by Orihel, her fifth season assist.

At the half Geneva led 3-0 – and still wanted more goals.

Freshman forward Hannah Cochran (East Liverpool, OH/Beaver) made her first collegiate goal assisted by freshman forward Laiton Suders (Chambersburg, PA/Cumberland Valley Christian).

Bethany’s Michaela Hinerman made an unassisted goal in the 65th minute to put the Bison on the board.

Geneva’s offense tallied 28 shots in the 90 minutes. Bethany took 19 shots at Geneva goal keeper, Anna McMullen (Uniontown, OH/Lake Center Christian). McMullen saved ten shots in the Geneva win.
