Geneva men lose at buzzer to Bethany 64-62

Beaver Falls, PA - Last season, the Geneva College men’s basketball team had its biggest win of the season at Bethany in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference playoffs as the ninth-seeded Golden Tornadoes upset the top-seeded Bison.

This season, the tradition of exciting games continued but the results were different as a tip by Antonio Rudolph with 0:00.8 seconds left broke a 62-62 tie. Geneva had fought back from a 62-57 deficit in the final 32 seconds to create the tie but the effort turned out to be for naught.

It was the second straight nail-biter at Geneva’s Metheny Fieldhouse – the last home game was a 56-55 win over Thiel that features nine ties and 11 lead changes. This game had eight ties and eight lead changes.

“We had two bad stretches that really hurt us but we battled to the end,” said Geneva coach Jeff Santarsiero. “When you score that many points in the final few seconds, it truly means the game is never over but we need to learn how to finish games and play the whole 40 minutes.”

Geneva was led by junior Ethan Adamczyk (Uniontown, OH/Lake) with 23 points, including all five in that final minute comeback. Junior Jordan Lawrence (Columbia, MD/Chapelgate) added 14 points and senior Jacob Jaros (Levittsburg, OH/LaBrae) had 10 rebounds.

Geneva, 3-6 overall and 1-2 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action, will not play again until after Christmas. The Golden Tornadoes will next play Monday, December 29 at 5:30 p.m. in a tournament at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH.
