Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva women’s basketball coach Lori Wynn stressed defense in talks with her team since allowing 84 points in Saturday’s loss. The talks obviously worked as the Golden Tornadoes allowed just four points in the first half and rolled to a 57-31 win over Notre Dame (MD).

“We had spent a lot of time coming into the game talking about defense,” said Wynn. “We haven’t had a chance to practice since the last game but we talked about it at the shoot-around this morning.

“We know that is how we need to play and we did a very good job of it, especially in the first half. We matched up very well against Notre Dame, too.”

The matchup advantage was especially evident on the boards – Geneva had a 60-35 edge in rebounding as junior Heidi Mann (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) led with 19 rebounds. Sophomore Nicole Hyland (Trafford. PA/Penn-Trafford), coming off a career high of 23 points, had 21 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman Lydia Songer (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) added 11 points.

Geneva improves to 3-6 and is already within one win of matching last year’s total. The Golden Tornadoes return to action December 31 at 2 p.m. at Franciscan – the site of last year’s first win.
