Beaver Falls, PA - Franciscan scored the first 13 points of its game with Geneva and the Golden Tornadoes were unable to recover, falling 61-44.

Geneva’s first points of the game came on a three-pointer by sophomore Miranda Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union) but Franciscan answered with another 11-point run giving Franciscan a 24-3 lead and the game was, essentially, settled.

“We dug ourselves a big hole,” said Geneva coach Lori Wynn. “I’m not pleased that we did that but I am pleased with the way we responded, especially since we had some players out sick.

“We’re very young and a lot of our freshmen got to see some good minutes. Still, it was good to get a game under our belt before we start conference play.”

Geneva was led in scoring by freshman Lydia Songer (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) with 12 points, her second straight game in double digits. Heaney added 11 and junior Heidi Mann (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Nicole Hyland (Trafford. PA/Penn-Trafford), the reigning Presidents’ Athletic Conference player of the week, did not play due to an illness.

The Golden Tornadoes, now 3-7, will return to Presidents’ Athletic Conference action Saturday at 1 p.m. at Grove City.
