Strong second half not enough, Geneva men fall at Bethany 85-68

BETHANY, WV – Geneva outscored Bethany 39-35 in the second half, but it wasn’t nearly enough to offset a Bison explosion of 50 points in the first half as the Golden Tornadoes fell in their first return to the site of their biggest upset last year. Last year, ninth-seeded Geneva upset top-seeded Bethany in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) first round at Bethany.

Now 7-12 and 4-6 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action, Geneva was led in scoring by two players who weren’t on the roster at that time - junior Ethan Adamczyk (Uniontown, OH/Lake) had 23 and freshman Jimmy Leichliter (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) had 14. Adamczyk is a transfer from Lake Erie College.

“It’s disappointing, we’re just not competing the way we should,” said Geneva coach Jeff Santarsiero. “We did make our free throws tonight and that was a plus but we didn’t defend well.

“We’ve got to get back on track because the schedule doesn’t get any easier.”

Geneva will next return home Saturday to host St. Vincent at 3 p.m.
