GROVE CITY, PA - Geneva fought back from two second half deficits to send its game at Grove City into overtime but a third comeback just wasn’t in the cards as the Golden Tornadoes fell.

Now 3-8 overall and 1-3 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play, Geneva fell behind by 15 at (46-31) with 13:54 left in the second half but started an 18-3 run to tie the game at 49-49 with 5:01 left when senior Chelsea Kauffman (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) hit a free throw. In that run, sophomore Miranda Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union) led the way with six points but six different players combined for the 18 points.

Grove City, though, responded with a run of its own to take a 54-49 lead only to see the Golden Tornadoes tie the score at 54-54 with 23.2 seconds left on a three-pointer by and junior Heidi Mann (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy).

The overtime, though, belonged to Grove City as Geneva never led.

“We got hurt by another slow start,” said Geneva coach Lori Wynn. “But we played great in the second half and rebounded much better.

“We definitely got better this game.”

Geneva was led in scoring by Mann with 20 points and 12 rebounds, her second straight double-double. Kauffman had a season-high 15 points and Miranda Heaney added 11.

The Golden Tornadoes will host their first Presidents’ Athletic Conference game of 2015 Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Washington & Jefferson.
