Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva collected 50 rebounds, compared to just 27 by Chatham, as the Golden Tornadoes played their most complete game of the year Saturday afternoon. After a bad shooting night Wednesday against Washington & Jefferson, Geneva bounced back to shoot 47% and had five players score in double figures as the Golden Tornadoes improved to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. The win matches Geneva’s season total for last year.

“We played a complete game and put two halves together,” said Geneva coach Lori Wynn. “Defensively and rebounding-wise, it is the best we’ve been.

“We’re young and it’s a growing process. Nicole Hyland was unbelievable.”

Hyland, a sophomore from Penn Trafford High School (Trafford, PA) had 10 points and 18 rebounds – the rebounds were a career high for the 5-foot-8 Hyland. She wasn’t the only Geneva player to achieve a double-double, either.

Junior Heidi Mann (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) had 22 points and 13 rebounds. It was the seventh straight game with double figure rebounds for the 5-7 Mann. She averages just under 16 points and 11 rebounds per game and is on pace to be the first Geneva player to average double digits in both categories since Alyson Vogrin in 1996-97.

Also scoring in double digits for Geneva were senior Chelsea Kauffman (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) with 15, sophomore twins Marissa Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union) with 14 and Miranda Heaney with 12.

The Golden Tornadoes will need to continue their high level of play as they return to PAC action Wednesday, visiting Thomas More, second ranked nationally.
