Geneva women fall to second-ranked Thomas More 101-38

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY

Geneva looked ready to give Thomas More a battle early – when Marissa Heaney scored four minutes in, the layup brought the Golden Tornadoes to within a basket at 14-12. Four minutes later, though, the margin was 27-14 and the Saints never looked back.

“We started the game really well, I was happy with that,” said Geneva coach Lori Wynn. “But Thomas More is really good, we saw why they’re second ranked.

“They just shot the lights out. They came into the game shooting 30% from three-point range and this game they shoot 62.5%. Sometimes you play the percentages and it works, sometimes, it doesn’t.”

The Saints made 15 of 24 three-point attempts with five different players connecting. Leading the way was Sydney Moss (daughter of NFL wide receiver Randy Moss), who made six of eight on her way to a game-high 22 points. Thomas More is now 14-0, 7-0 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action.

Geneva was led by junior Heidi Mann (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) with nine points and nine rebounds, falling a rebound short of eight straight games with double-digit rebounds.

The Golden Tornadoes, now 4-10 and 2-5, will return Pennsylvania Saturday, visiting Westminster at 5:30.
