BEAVER FALLS, PA - Just one game after a Washington & Jefferson first half 15-point run cost Geneva a win, the Golden Tornadoes allowed a 17-point run to Grove City and lost 69-56. A layup by sophomore Nicole Hyland (Trafford, PA/Penn-Trafford) cut Grove City’s lead to 10-9 but it would be 6:20 before Geneva scored again and by then the Wolverines led 27-9.

“It’s the same two things we’ve struggled with all year - we’re a young team – a bunch of freshmen and sophomores with one junior and one senior,” said Geneva coach Lori Wynn. “Our youth and our depth continue to be challenges but they’re challenges we can correct eventually.

“We did get better this game, though. We cut the gap to eight in the second half but couldn’t get closer.”

Sophomore Miranda Heaney (New Castle, PA/Union) led Geneva with 15 points while junior Heidi Mann (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) had her seventh double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 assists. She passed Tricia Martin (1975-79) in 13th place on Geneva’s career scoring list - she now has 934. Senior Chelsea Kauffman (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) also scored 10 points.

Geneva, now 4-17 and 2-12 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play, will host nationally ranked Thomas More Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
