Gaugler’s Silver Medal Mile Breaks School Record; Geneva Finishes Fifth

Youngstown, OH – Indoor Track and Field became an official PAC sport during the 2014-15 school year allowing Geneva student-athletes to compete for a trophy during the winter season. The Golden Tornadoes’ 69 points allowed them to finish over Waynesburg, Thiel, W&J and St. Vincent. Grove City claimed the first-ever Championship with 116 points.

In addition to their fifth place finish, the Golden Tornadoes were honored with the 2015 indoor track and field team sportsmanship award.

Havilah Gaugler (Pittsburgh, PA / Avonworth) earned two silver medals and school record. Gaugler’s silver mile run time of 5:23.52 broke Alayna Merkle’s record set in 2013 of 5:23.77.

Gaugler along with teammates Madelyn Blosser (Mechanicsburg, PA / Cumberland Valley), Jessica Kelosky (Fombell, PA / Riverside) and Anna Wargo (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) finished second in the distance medley relay (DMR).

Blosser also finished sixth in the 800 meter run (2:31.14). Wargo finished eighth in the 5000 meter run (19:49.78).

Kelosky finished eighth in the 200 meter dash (27.76) and took fifth in the 60 meter dash setting the school record to 8.26. Kelosky's 8.26 time replaced Erin Henderson's 2005 indoor record time of 8.69. 

Nicole Bartoletta (Monaca, PA / Central Valley) placed fifth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.83).

Bartoletta, Kimberly Orihel (Clinton, OH / Cuyahoga Valley Christian), Jamie Mahan (Saxonburg, PA / Knoch) and Emily Claypool (Worthington, PA / Kittanning) placed sixth in the 4x400 relay (4:40.41).

Geneva earned a large handful of points in the field lead by Kailee Loose (Beaver Falls, PA / Beaver) with a bronze medal in the long jump (4.77).  Rachael Carey (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler) finished fourth (4.76) and Emily Claypool (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) finished seventh (4.57) in the long jump.

Sarah Foy (Rockwood, PA / Rockwood Area) claimed two fifth place finishes, one in shot put (10.66) and the second in the weight throw (11.32). Sara Williams (Wellsboro, PA / New Covenant Academy) finished sixth in the shot put (10.60).

Saturday March 21 the Golden Tornadoes will start the outdoor season at the California University of Pennsylvania.
