Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva baseball dropped two games Saturday in its home opener against Houghton College with 7-1, 7-2 finals. Originally schedule to be played at Houghton, Houghton traveled last minute to the 33rd Street Field to avoid the three inches of snow forecast for New York. The losses lower Geneva’s overall record to 6-6 overall.

In game one against the Highlanders in the top of the fourth, Andy Santana’s (San Pedro de Marcoris, DR/Desert Christian) single RBI to left field tied the game 1-1. In the fifth inning Geneva surrendered three runs and could not answer despite loading the bases. Houghton’s offense continued in the seventh inning for the 7-1 final. Josh Glover (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) ended up taking the loss.

Anthony Monteparte (Latrobe, PA/Latrobe) homered to left field in the bottom of the second for the 1-0 lead in game two. Houghton responded quickly in the top of the fourth with a four hit rally leaving the GTs trailing 4-1. Ian Macdonald (Grantham, PA/West Shore Christian Academy) took the loss from the pitcher’s mound.

“We were simply out played today,” said Head Coach Alan Sumner. “It was good to face some solid pitching today to get us ready for Grove City on Tuesday. It all starts for real now!”

Geneva opens up conference play on Tuesday, March 24 hosting the Grove City Wolverines in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
