Softball Season Opener Day Finishes With Split

Softball Pitch

Ft. Myers, FL – Geneva Softball enters day two of its season 1-1 after an 8-4 season opener win over Wilmington College and dropped a 5-4 game to New Jersey City University.

”It was great to get to play in warm weather but clearly the lack of work outside is playing a role in our efforts,” said Head Coach Van Zanic.

“We didn’t play well today but had a chance to win a couple games. As it turned out we managed a split and we were fortunate to get that.”

Lucia Fee (Wampum, PA / Mohawk) returned for her second season as a GT hitting three while running in three against Wilmington. Junior pitcher Samantha Johnson (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) picked up her first win of the season while striking out five Wilmington batters.

Later in the afternoon, Geneva built four runs against New Jersey City University in the first two innings but after three innings of silence New Jersey City racked up five runs for the win. Clara Sevy (Sykesville, MD / Chapelgate Christian) lead Geneva’s offense with two hits, two RBIs.

The Golden Tornadoes suit up again tomorrow, Tuesday March 10, to face Curry College at 1 p.m. and Suffolk College at 3 p.m.
