Fort Myers, FL – Geneva softball’s first game 8-4 comeback against Mount Mary University opened up the flood gates for the offense to take off in game two against Nichols College finishing in fifth innings a 10-2 final. The sweep raises Geneva’s overall record to 5-3.

Geneva rallied four runs in the bottom of the sixth against Mount Mary University. Laura Innocenzi (Cortland, OH / Lakeview) tripled to center field batting in Andy Hinds (Montrose, PA / Montrose), Sam Johnson (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) and Harley Rickards (Harrington, DE / Milford) for the 7-4 lead with only two outs. Taylor Yarletts (Wampum, PA / Mohawk) brought home Innocenzi with a single to shortstop for the eight run win. On the mound, Johnson earned the win with an outstanding 13 strike out performance.

Momentum continued in the batter’s box for the Golden Tornadoes against Nichols College with a ten run team effort. Hinds earned the win in the circle, striking out nine batters. Innocenzi’s double to center field batted in Hinds and Yarletts for the 4-0 lead entering the second inning. During the second inning Dayna Hicks (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) started the top of the order with a single followed by Clara Sevy’s (Sykesville, MD / Chapelgate Christian) double to center field starting a rally that lead to an eight run lead. Geneva sealed the game in the bottom of the fifth off a RBI single by Madison Schantz (Harrod, OH / Allen East) and a wild pitch.

“We played a solid game against Nichols,” said Head Coach Van Zanic.

“We probably didn’t deserve to win two games but we brought the offense out today.”

“I am very happy for some of our players that have been struggling to come up with big hits.”

“We wanted to get out of the splitting trend and we finally did.”

March 14 the Golden Tornadoes face Brockport at 3 p.m. and Salem State University at 5 p.m.
