Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva softball swept Houghton 5-2, 10-7 in its season home opener raising its record to 9-5 overall.

“It was nice to be back home,” said Head Coach Van Zanic.

“Offensively we did a very nice job.”

Megan Davis (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) went five for six on the day at bat. In the bottom of the third Davis singled to left field batting in Laura Innocenzi (Cortland, OH / Lakeview) for the 5-0 over Houghton. In the top of the fifth Sam Johnson (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) earned her fourth strike out of the game defusing the threating runner on third after a two run rally. Clara Sevy (Sykesville, MD / Chapelgate Christian) ended the game with a diving catch in center field for the 5-2 win.

In game two Houghton scored a run early in the first inning forcing Geneva to work for the comeback win. Lucia Fee’s (Wampum, PA / Mohawk) single RBI in the bottom of the third started a six run rally leading 7-1. Geneva surrendered three runs to Houghton in both the fifth and sixth innings closing the gap by one run; 8-7. Davis doubled to left field batting in Taylor Yarletts (Wampum, PA / Mohawk) allowing Geneva to ensure the win 10-7.

Johnson raised her pitching record to 6-4 after pocketing two winning performances.

“Sam Johnson picked us up without our number two pitcher here today, Andy Hinds.”

Coach Zanic continued, “Now things get really, really, serious with some very good teams.”
