Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva broke its three game losing streak this afternoon in a doubleheader against Baptist Bible. The visiting Defenders made the Golden Tornadoes work for it in the opener as freshman Joey Luciana’s (Oakmont, PA/St. Joseph) rbi single lifted Geneva 10-9 in the bottom of the seventh for the game one win. The walk-off win helped Geneva  earn a split after Baptist Bible defeated Geneva 8-6 in game two.

Now 12-23 overall, the Golden Tornadoes fell behind by four runs in the second inning of game one. It wasn’t until Jacob Prosser (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) doubled to centerfield, stole third and was batted in by Michael Harris (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) that Geneva’s offense awakened and changed the lead in their favor 6-4 by the end of third. The five hit rally sparked what would be JC Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian), Tyler Damazo (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk), Prosser and Forrest Beighley (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) combined nine hits and five rbis in the win.

Caleb Metzler (Lititz, PA/Warwick) earned the win, working just on inning and striking out two.

Despite the momentum swaying towards Geneva, Baptist Bible came back in the nightcap. Baptist Bible ended its 11-game losing streak by opening the game with three runs. Geneva earned ten hits while only surrendering one error but the visitors topped the GTs off with 14 hits. Zach Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian) was charged with the loss.

The four game series continues tomorrow at 33rd Street Field in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Before the beginning of game two (scheduled for 4 p.m.), the Golden Tornadoes will celebrate their five seniors of the class of 2015; Shane Wingard (Clarksburg, PA/Apollo Ridge), Stephen MacLean (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug), Tyler Damazo, Dan Jeffreys (Moon Twp, PA/Moon) and Ryan McGonigle (Vandergrift, PA/Apollo Ridge).
