High Offense Afternoon as Geneva Softball Splits with St. Vincent

Beaver Falls, PA – After a slow start in both games, the Golden Tornadoes split a double header with St. Vincent, losing the first 15-6 and winning the second 12-7.

St. Vincent was dominant offensively early in the first game, jumping to an early lead in the top of the first. Home runs for St. Vincent College came when Sarah Swettlen homered in the second and fifth innings and Breanne Wallace homered in the sixth inning. St. Vincent College's Courtney Patterson, Emily Duerr, Swettlen and Wallace combined for 10 hits and 12 RBIs.

Geneva got its first run from Laura Innocenzi (Cortland, OH / Lakeview), but the GT’s were never able to take the lead away from St. Vincent.

In the second game, Laura Beck (Canfield, OH / Canfield) started the game well offensively with a solo run homer to give Geneva the early lead. St. Vincent responded with four back to back home runs to pull ahead of the GT’s 6-2 in the third inning. After a wild offensive surge, Geneva would regain the lead from St. Vincent and not relinquish it again. Home runs by Taylor Yarletts (Wampum, PA / Mohawk) and Beck would seal the win and Samantha Johnson’s (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) got the save.

“I think the girls showed a lot of character coming back in the second game. St. Vincent is a great team and the way we came back in the second game is a testament to how well the girls played” Coach Van Zanic.

The softball team plays again away at Bethany College on April 14th at 3:30 and 5:30.
