Waynesburg, PA – Geneva earned two conference wins on the road against Waynesburg this afternoon (April 2). The 1-0, 5-3 league wins raise Geneva’s overall record to 13-11, 3-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Sam Johnson’s (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) shutout performance on the mound allowed Geneva’s lone run to be good enough for the win.

The winning run came off the bat of first baseman Laura Beck (Canfield, OH / Canfield) bringing in shortstop Dayna Hicks (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) is the sixth inning.

Head Coach Van Zanic said, “Today’s wins were a total team effort.”

“Same pitched a great game the first game and we hit the ball well in the second.”

“It was a tough day to play softball with the rain but we battled through it and it is great to start the conference season with a 3-1 record.”

Early in game two Geneva bats came alive. Lucia Fee (Wampum, PA / Mohawk) homered batting in Andy Hinds (Montrose, PA / Montrose) for the three run lead. Laura Innocenzi (Cortland, OH / Lakeview) single rbi ended the first inning 4-0.

Hinds doubled to right field in the second batting in Beck for the fifth a final GT run.
