Office 365

Geneva College is in the process of implementing Office 365 for Education for all students, faculty and staff. The rollout of new features includes Office 365 Outlook Web Access (OWA), enabling access to email, calendars and contacts through Outlook online from any Internet browser on or off campus, locally on a PC or Mac, or through an app for Android or iOS devices.

The changes will roll out over the coming months, with support becoming available for more Office 365 services over time.

Through Office 365 for Education, the Geneva community will be able to access Office Online, as well as download and use the latest versions of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note, Access, Publisher, Outlook and InfoPath on their personal computers.

PC users will be able to download the entire Office 2013 suite, while Office for Mac will also be available in two versions. Mac users running OSX Yosemite or higher will have access to Office 2016 for Mac. Users running older Apple operating systems will have access to Office 2011 for Mac.

These software benefits are slated to be available to students on or before the start of the semester, August 31, 2015. They will then be released to faculty and staff at a later date.

During the coming months more services from Office 365 will become available including other cloud services such as One Drive for Business that will enable students, faculty and staff to collaborate on projects completely in the cloud, from anywhere with an Internet connection. Other services coming in the future include Skype for Business and Yammer.

Director of Administrative Computing Craig Lahtinen looks forward to the benefits that these services will provide to the Geneva community, saying, “We can start to reduce our investment in on-site storage, moving to the cloud. That puts us in a mobile-based environment.”
