Leadership Together Conference on Sep. 18

Study Abroad

Leadership TogetherGeneva College’s Center for Student Engagement (CSE) is excited to announce that the Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO) is sponsoring Leadership Together at Slippery Rock University on Friday, September 18, 2015, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Leadership Together is designed to equip college students to live out the calling that God has given them on campus and after graduation. Keith Martel, Professor of Higher Education at Geneva, and Brian Jensen, Dean of Student Development at Geneva, will be speaking on the keynote topic of “Leadership in Christ.”

Breakout session topics include “Education” with CCO Campus Ministry staff members Sam Levy and Geraud Brumfield, “Relationships” with Director of Spiritual Formation at Malone University, Rev. Dr. Linda Leon, “Race/Diversity” with Grove City professor Dr. Todd Allen, “Vocation” with Director of Spiritual Formation and Teaching Dave Bindewald, and “Athletics” with Director of “SB2Dub Citikidz” Timotheus Pope.

The CCO is a campus ministry organization that focuses on involving the teachings of Christ in the campus community through evangelism, experiential ministry and leadership development. The CCO’s core values stand on the belief that all things belong to God, Jesus transforms and restores lives, love for college students, faithfulness is pursued together and life is celebrated. The CCO has a 500 mile radius of partnerships with 115 Campuses in the Northeast region.

Randon Willard, Director of the CSE, and Becky Case, Coordinator for Adventure Learning, agree that God is doing amazing work through the CCO on campuses, in the Pittsburgh area in particular.

According to Willard, “Leadership Together incorporates the whole idea that what we do matters to God, which is the way that the CCO approaches everything. It’s easy to feel defeated sometimes in the development of the kingdom and this conference is designed to turn that around with the perspective that God is actively doing amazing work on campuses.”

Willard believes that Leadership Together is the perfect opportunity for college students to focus on their leadership gifts for the furthering of the Kingdom. “The CCO really focuses on the way we’re called, and we’re called to be blessings so that we can equip college students to begin thinking about how their faith matters for what they’re going to do in the world.”

Case says that Leadership Together provides the opportunity for the Geneva Community to meet and have fellowship with a large group of Christian students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. “It is so valuable for Geneva students to get connected with students from other colleges and universities to understand leadership in the larger perspective.”

Case believes that Geneva students in particular would benefit in attending Leadership Together because of the CCO’s shared belief in reformed theology and that it promotes the community of the saints by reinforcing those relationships to strengthen the church. She added “Leadership Together companions Geneva students very well with the Reformed perspective, and it also gives them contact with other universities.”
