The Wednesday, September 30, 2015 episode of WORLD Radio’s The World and Everything in It has been posted to Geneva College’s website at http://www.geneva.edu/faith/the-world. The midweek edition of the show talks about the GOP presidential race as well as the evolution of Christian fundamentalism.

In today’s top news, Cecile Richards speaks out against the journalist group that posted photos and videos of Planned Parenthood employees allegedly selling body parts from aborted fetuses. She also spoke about allegations of the organization using taxpayer money to fund political action committees that speak on behalf of the Democratic Party.

California Representative Kevin McCarthy announced his desire to run for the vacant Speaker of the House position left by John Boehner. He said that he hopes to restore the nation’s confidence in congress. Florida Representative Daniel Webster is also running.

In other news, Naghmeh Abedini, the wife of imprisoned U.S. pastor Saeed Abedini, said that the U.S. should not accept the Iranian proposed prisoner swap that would send 19 Iranian criminals to Iran and bring four imprisoned U.S. citizens home. She does not want the U.S. to swap criminals for people who have done nothing wrong.

Obamacare’s largest co-op Health Republic Insurance has been shut down after taking significant losses the past two years. Experts believe that more co-op closures are likely.

In the White House Wednesday portion of the show, WORLD reports on GOP campaign, specifically on the relevance of early polls and Donald Trump’s recent decline. Previous election years 2008 and 2011 are examined to see who front runners were at the same stage and are compared to the actual nominees. The lack of success from early leaders led to questions about Trump and whether or not his supporters are getting bored of his message and delivery.

WORLD looks at the rise and fall of Fundamentalism in the latter part of the program. Conservatism is often replaced with fundamentalism today, but they have different meanings. The reliance of the movement on opposing something else, such as modernism in Christianity, is outlined. WORLD also outlines the movement’s shift into modern-day evangelicalism.
