Beaver Falls, PA – What a difference a couple weeks makes for the Geneva College football team. After opening the 2015 season with a disappointing loss to Frostburg State, the Golden Tornadoes opened play in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference with an impressive 41-24 victory over Waynesburg University. Coupled with its first road in three years at Grove City a week ago, the Golden Tornadoes improved to 2-1 on the season including a 1-0 mark in conference play after rolling past Waynesburg.

Geneva spotted the Yellow Jackets a 17-7 first quarter lead before reeling off 34 consecutive points to take control of the game. “We didn’t start the way we wanted to and we didn’t finish the game the way we wanted to, but the execution in between was what we have been waiting for,” said head coach Geno DeMarco. “The kids made some plays on offense especially in third down situations and we got the result we were looking for tonight. We have to get off to a better start and we have to clean up a sloppy finish to the game, but it was great to see our hard work pay off tonight.”

Sophomore quarterback Aaron Channing threw five touchdown passes in the game and went 19-32 for 312 yards. Channing got Geneva on the board when he hooked up with Nick Cook on a 28 yard touchdown in the first quarter to tie the score at 7-7. After Waynesburg scored ten straight points, Channing struck again on a 17-yard touchdown to Devin Kelosky and a 22 yard touchdown to Jake Olenick that took the Golden Tornadoes into the locker room with a 21-17 lead.

The offense continued to click in the second half with touchdown receptions of 22 yards to Kelosky and 36 yards to Cook in the third quarter. Geneva’s final touchdown came on a 23 yard run from freshman Eric Lucich. Geneva finished the game with 443 yards of total offense to Waynesburg’s 304.

On defense, Geneva was led by Brent Mulneiux’s 12 tackles while teammate Bryan Weyant added nine tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack

Geneva will look to keep rolling next Saturday with a 3 pm homecoming kick-off against Carnegie Mellon University.
