Latrobe, PA – Freshmen Josh Duffie (Canton, OH/Glenoak) ran the 8K race at Saint Vincent in 27:56.7 for 13th place among 144 runners.

“Josh Duffie is the first freshman since I've been here that has run under 28 minutes in his first 8K race,” said head coach Brian Yowler.

Duffie led Geneva to a seventh place finish out of 16 competing schools. Included in the nine schools Geneva finished ahead of were Presidents’ Athletic Conference schools Bethany, Westminster, Chatham and Thiel.

“This was an important meet for us because it was on the same course as the PAC (Presidents’ Athletic Conference) championship meet,” said head coach Brian Yowler. Therefore every PAC team was there except for Thomas More. This gave us a great opportunity to see where we stack up against the rest of the conference six weeks before the PAC Championships.”

Other top Geneva finishers included freshman Andrew Domencic (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) with a time of 28:36.8 and junior Ken Kutcel (Medina, OH/Medina) who finished in 28:50.4. Kutcel finished 55 seconds faster than last year’s race.

“Three of our top four and four of our top six are freshmen. Since the Westminster Invite was cancelled (due to weather) this was their debut at the 8K distance.”

“The St. Vincent course is very challenging and punishes you for making mistakes. Thankfully, our guys executed the race plan very well and finished a very strong fourth out of the nine PAC schools.”

Geneva will be back in action on the road again next Saturday.
