PAC Selects Four as Players of the Week

pac gt pow

pac gt powBeaver Falls, PA- It was a great week to be a Golden Tornado (GT).

Football defeated rival Grove City on the road, volleyball defeated PAC Championship foe Bethany and went on to finish 4-0 at the PSU Behrend tournament this week, and women’s soccer went undefeated 3-0 this week, improving to a 4-0 overall record.

All four programs had one of their student-athletes selected as a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) players of the week.

Jon Fiscus (Freeedom, Pa./Freedom) was selected as the Football Defensive Player of the Week. Nate Cannon (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Kings Academy) was named Football Special Teams Player of the Week. Olivia Test (Negley, Ohio/Heartland Christian) was selected as the PAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week. Women’s soccer’s Kimberly Orihel (Green, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) was named as the Offensive Player of the Week.

Fiscus, a junior linebacker, earned five tackles at Grove City, one tackle for loss (TFL) for 14 yards, two interceptions and a blocked extra point kick (PAT). Fiscus’ second interception led to Geneva’s game winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was his blocked kick that was picked up by Nate Cannon and returned for two Geneva points, allowing Geneva to hold the lead at half (15-13).

Cannon, a sophomore, was effective as a cornerback with three tackles, three pass breakups and an interception but it was his work on special teams that affected the scoreboard directly and earned him his award. Geneva led 13-0 after the first quarter, but Grove City answered in the second quarter with an 18-yard touchdown. The extra point kick, though, was blocked by Fiscus and picked up by Cannon, who returned the ball the length of the field for a defensive extra point (DXP). The two points allowed Geneva to hold the lead at halftime 15-13 and Geneva went on to win the rival game in a 21-16 final.

On the volleyball court, Test, a junior, had a fantastic week on offense facing Bethany (3-1 win), D'Youville (3-0), Frostburg State (3-0), Defiance (3-0) and PSU Behrend (3-0). Test had 46 kills, hitting .422 percent (46 kills in 83 swings) and committing only 11 errors. In addition to her kills she also totaled eight blocks. Against conference foe Bethany, Test led the Golden Tornadoes with a team-high 16 kills, earning a.520 hitting percentage.

On the soccer field, Orihel, also a junior, had a tremendous week with five goals in three games against Mount Aloysius (4-1 win), Pitt-Greensburg (3-1) and Marietta (2-0). Orihel finished the week shooting a 75% shot on goal percentage. She scored Geneva’s first, third and fourth goals at Mount Aloysius, first goal against Pitt-Greensburg and second goal at Marietta.
