Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva hosted St. Vincent for a tennis match that started in the afternoon sunshine and ended inside after five hours. Despite the long battle, St. Vincent defeated Geneva 7-2. The loss brings Geneva’s overall record to 3-1, 2-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Geneva’s two points came from the racket of junior Megan Hinds (Montrose, PA/Montrose). Hinds and second doubles partner Sara Stoll (Norwalk, OH/Norwalk) defeated their Bearcat opponent 8-5. Hinds then went onto play fifth singles against Anita Onufer. Hinds and Onufer started outside but had to finish inside as the match into the evening. Hinds won 6-7 (4), 7-5, 10-8 after being down triple match point in the second set.

“Today was marked by highs and lows. We didn’t win as many spots as we hoped to but there were several competitive matches, which is encouraging against a team of St. Vincent’s caliber,” said head coach Mandee Craft.

Saturday, September 19 the Golden Tornadoes will face Marietta and Waynesburg at Waynesburg.
