Perfect day gives Volleyball 9-1 record

Erie, PA – Volleyball won the PSU Behrend tournament going 4-0 this weekend without dropping a set. Presidents’ Athletic Conference for Bethany College was also at the tournament but the two teams did not face each other.

Bethany also went 4-0, but dropped two sets allowing Geneva to take first in the competition.

Saturday afternoon, Geneva defeated both Defiance (25-13, 25-22, 25-21) and PSU Behrend (25-19, 25-10, 25-11). The 9-1 Golden Tornadoes have now recorded nine straight wins, dropping only one set to Bethany last Wednesday.

“We played really well all weekend,” said head co-head coach Curt Conser.

“(McKala) King is doing really well as a defensive specialist and both she and (Gabrielle) Dickson are leading the charge defensively.”

King (Uniontown, OH/Lake) tallied 11 digs against Defiance, six over PSU Behrend.

Dickson (Brookfield, OH/Kennedy Catholic) totaled 49 digs; 22 against Defiance, 27 against PSU Behrend.

“(Olivia) Test and (Erica) Hughes had some really strong matches as well. Our hitting errors were low both days.”

Test (Negley, OH/Heartland Christian) hit eight kills in 20 swings with no errors facing Defiance, six kills in 11 attempts with one error against PSU Behrend.

Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) led the team in kills in both matches. She earned 15 kills in 34 swings in game one against Defiance, 18 kills in 39 attempts in game two against PSU Behrend giving up only two errors per game.

Rachel Netherland was selected as all-tournament team for her work in all areas of the game. Dickson was also selected for her outstanding defense.

Volleyball is back in action Thursday, September 17 at Washington & Jefferson where the GTs will face Chatham at 6 p.m., Washington & Jefferson at 8 p.m.
