womens soccer

Alliance, OH – All good things must come to an end and as it was for the Geneva College women’s soccer team on Saturday afternoon. Geneva’s perfect season came to an end with a 5-3 loss at the hands of Mount Union University by the score of 5-3. Geneva fell to 4-1 on the season, but it was not without a fight.

Geneva surrendered three first half goals after Heidi Mann opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the game on a feed from Kim Orihel. The Golden Tornadoes were unable to hold their lead as the Purple Raiders tied the game just two minutes later and tacked on two more goals before the halftime whistle.

Each team tallied a pair of goals in the second half with Geneva’s Hannah Sleight and Mann’s second goal of the game closing out the scoring. Kelsey Malenic from Mount Union proved too much for Geneva to handle as she registered a hat trick including a pair of goals in the second half to put the game away.

Mount Union outshot Geneva 23-15 with goalkeeper Anna McMullen posting 13 saves in the match.

Geneva fell to 4-1 with the loss and will get back to action on Wednesday night when it hosts Franciscan University at 7 pm.
