The Wednesday, October 21, 2015 episode of WORLD Radio’s The World and Everything in It has been posted to Geneva College’s website at http://www.geneva.edu/faith/the-world. The midweek edition of the show talks about the Democratic presidential race and third-quarter fundraising for candidates on both sides. The program also features a testimony from 2015 Miss Philippines winner Chrystelle Volckmann.

In today’s top news, violence on the temple mount continues in Jerusalem. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declined a United Nations takeover of the area, saying that it would only serve to increase violence. He also says that the Palestinian president is responsible for the bloodshed and will not own up to terrorist attacks that have occurred. Palestinians are rioting at the possibility of being rejected on the Temple Mount, a claim that Israel denies.

Speaker of the House John Boehner will publicly sign the Defense Authorization Act to try to put pressure on President Obama to sign the bill. The legislation looks to reform military equipment purchases in order to combat ISIS. The president currently plans to veto the bill because it bypasses military spending cuts without restoring cuts to domestic programs.

In other news, a survivor of a 1991 mass shooting in Texas believes that Hillary Clinton is wrong about a mandatory government gun buyback program. Critics say that only law-abiding citizens would actually turn in their guns, leaving firearms in the hands of criminals. The survivor believes that Clinton should be the first to disarm her security detail before asking for the guns of citizens.

The Obama administration is supportive of legislation that would reduce jail time for nonviolent drug offenders. The current system is said to be overly costly, hurt families and undermine the confidence of the American people in the justice system.

In the White House Wednesday portion of the show, WORLD reports on the current state of the Democratic presidential race. Rumors continue to swirl about Vice President Joe Biden’s candidacy. Sources close to the matter are convinced he will announce soon. Biden recently changed his story regarding the raid that took out Osama Bin Laden. While he had previously not disputed a report saying he was against the raid, he said recently that he told the president to go with his gut.

Fundraising amounts for the third quarter are in, painting a clearer picture of the current state of the race. The top two fundraisers were Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders with 28 and 26 million respectively, which was attributed to the large amount of candidates on the Republican side. The rivalry between Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio is also examined, as both are strong establishment candidates that must take the same path to election.

WORLD reports on the testimony of Miss Philippines 2015 Chrystelle Volckmann, who at a young age was the victim of a freak car accident that shattered her skull and forced her to receive upwards of 180 stitches. Her story talks about her struggles after that event and gives a look into the psyche of beauty pageant competitiors.
