GROVE CITY, PA - The Geneva College men’s soccer team had to wait a couple of extra days to record it, but still opened Presidents’ Athletic Conference play Monday with a 2-1 win at Grove City.

The game was scheduled to be played Saturday but was postponed by rain and poor field conditions.

“The field was in great condition today,” said head coach Gary Dunda. “We had to wait a couple of extra days but it was worth it. It was a good game between two good teams.

“We played better in the first half than we did in the second.”

Geneva built a 2-0 lead at halftime behind goals by junior Jonathan Shoaf (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Christian) and sophomore Abel Carleton (Darlington, PA/Beaver County Christian School). Grove City answered with a goal in the second half by David Wurmlinger but Geneva withstood the rally.

“It’s always important to win the first conference game, especially on the road,” said Dunda. “It was a back and forth game but we came out on top.”

Now 5-3-2 and 1-0 in conference, Geneva will have a short turn-around before returning to Presidents’ Athletic Conference play Wednesday at Westminster at 7:30.
