Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva hosted a Presidents’ Athletic Conference tri-match Thursday evening between the visiting Chatham Cougars and Washington & Jefferson Presidents.

Geneva opened play with a 3-0 win over Chatham (25-13, 25-10, 25-11). After Washington & Jefferson defeated Chatham, Geneva and the W&J Presidents battled in a four game set with a 24-16, 25-19, 25-20, 25-12 final raising Geneva’s new winning streak to three.

The Golden Tornadoes rolled over the Cougars while earning a team .256 hitting percentage, 17 serve aces and four team blocks.

In Geneva’s second match of the night, Washington & Jefferson took set one. The rest of the night looked differently resulting in three Golden Tornadoes with double digit kills.

“The setters spread the wealth to all six hitters,” said co-head coach Curt Conser. “It was nice to have three double digit kills and Grace was right there with nine. Erica Hughes got stronger as the match went and finished with a team high of 12 kills.”

Erica Hughes (North Jackson, OH/Jackson Milton) earned a .241 hitting percentage over the Presidents as the team’s leading scorer.

“Marissa Naples played a really intelligent match both in setting and hitting, and she was very effective on the service line,” said Conser. “Tuck was a beast on the service line.”

Marissa Naples (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) collected 11 kills (.267), 29 assists, two service aces, 11 digs and a solo block against W&J. Rachel Tuck (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary School) earned nine service aces in the night, seven against W&J.

Now 22-2 overall and 12-1 in the conference, Geneva will travel to Kentucky for a rematch against the first place Thomas More Saints on Wednesday, October 21.
