The Geneva College Center for Student Engagement (CSE) invites students to take part in a series of community service opportunities in the Beaver Falls area throughout November. Events include Bingo Night at the Providence Care Center, the Soup Kitchen at First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls, the Beaver Falls City Council Meeting, the Crossroads Shelter of Beaver County drive, and Angel Tree.

The Soup Kitchen at First Presbyterian Church invites students to assist in preparing and serving meals for individuals in need on Wednesday, November 4 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Bingo Night at the Providence Care Center will be November 9 from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. Providence Care Center is a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility and nursing center for the memory impaired located. Students will play Bingo and fellowship with the residents.

The Beaver Falls City Council Meeting is Tuesday, November 10 at 7p.m.  Students are encouraged to be active in city activities to promote the maintenance of Beaver Falls. By attending City Council Meetings, the Geneva community has a voice in decisions

The Crossroads Shelter of Beaver County Drive is from November 9–20. Students are encouraged to place items such as paper products, granola bars, towels and washcloths, men’s socks and t-shirts, umbrellas, toothpaste and brushes, soap, shampoo, and deodorant in designated Crossroads Shelter boxes around campus. The Crossroads Shelter aims to provide hope for homeless men by providing them with essentials that they may need. The shelter provides a place where homeless men can shower, use laundry facilities, rest, socialize and receive assistance in connecting with social services.

Angel Tree is collecting donations from November 2–December 1 in front of the Crossroads Office in the Student Center. Sponsored by TRAILS Ministries, Angel Tree’s mission is to connect incarcerated parents to their children during the Christmas season. This year, TRAILS Ministries is setting the goal of providing each child with a Bible in addition to their other gifts. Every Angel Tree child will receive clothing and a recreational item with a value of $25 each.

“The Bible tells us that we should love the Lord our God will all our heart, soul, strength and mind, and that we should love our neighbor as ourselves in Luke 10:27,” says Missy Nyeholt, Service Learning Coordinator. “We have the privilege of being a part of the city of Beaver Falls and I think that we can love our neighbors here by listening, learning, and serving alongside them. We have the opportunity to be a light in this place and it is important not only for students but also staff and faculty to find ways that that can be involved in this community.”

More information about these and other service opportunities is available by contacting Nyeholt at mnyeholt@geneva.edu.
