The Wednesday, November 11, 2015 episode of WORLD Radio’s The World and Everything in It has been posted to Geneva College’s website at http://www.geneva.edu/faith/the-world. The midweek edition of the show talks about the recent GOP debate and takes a look at the services and activities that Veterans provide to each other.

In today’s top news, the Justice department is asking the Supreme Court to decide on the constitutionality of President Obama’s executive order focusing on immigration reform. The Republican Congress is blamed for stopping the proposed reform. The Obama administration is confident that the Supreme Court will rule in favor of the reform, which would see the granting of work permits to illegal immigrants.

The Senate approved a defense authorization bill by a 91-3 vote after it received similar approval in the House. The bill contains provisions that would severely limit President Obama’s power  in closing the terrorist prison in Guantanamo Bay. The President is expected to sign the bill as it contains other important legislation necessary to the country.

In other news, British Prime Minister David Cameron laid out the country’s demands that could determine whether the nation remains in the European Union. Recent immigration issues have caused European countries to question the union. Demands include fiscal restraint, stronger economic competition, greater sovereignty and immigration restrictions.

In the White House Wednesday portion of the show, WORLD reports on Tuesday’s GOP debate that took place on the Fox Business Network. The debate focused primarily on fiscal issues, although the topic of immigration was addressed.

Ben Carson’s flat tax plan, which he relates to tithing, was also expanded upon. Carson reiterated on the idea of proportionality rather than strictly basing his plan on a 10 percent system. Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio also went head to head, with Bush looking to regain some ground in the establishment duel. World determines that there was no clear winner from the debate, with every candidate looking strong.

WORLD takes a look at the lives of Veterans after the end of their service and how fellow veterans provide support in the areas that the government does not. A group from Springfield, Missouri, is highlighted.
