Quinlan named first team All-PAC, seven others honored

geneva football

Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva College junior Jimmy Quinlan (Brookfield, OH/Brookfield) looks more like a wide receiver than a linebacker, wearing number six and checking in at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, but when he steps onto the football field, he removes all doubt. He led Geneva with 99 tackles this season, 12 for losses, and was named First team all-Presidents’ Athletic Conference Tuesday.

Seven other Golden Tornadoes were named on the all-conference teams, led by senior defensive back Thomas Benyo (Berlin Center, OH/Western Reserve), who was named to the second team. Benyo finished second on the team with 78 tackles and also had an interception.

Leading the list of six players recognized as Honorable Mention were a pair of first-year players and another in the first year at his position.

Freshman linebacker Brent Mulneix (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside) was third on the team with 67 tackles and fellow freshman Javid Ellis (Port St. Lucie, FL/Saint Lucie West Centennial) won the starting quarterback job midway through the season and finished as Geneva’s leading rusher with 315 yards and leading scorer with seven touchdowns. His season was cut short by injury but he finished with 476 yards passing and two TDs although passing just 80 times. Sophomore wide receiver Nick Cook (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) played quarterback as a freshman but moved to wide receiver quite successfully, lead the Golden Tornadoes with 45 catches for 611 yards and five touchdowns. Defensive back Nate Cannon (Palm Beach Gardens, FL/Kings Academy) had 41 tackles and an interception and started playing both ways in the finale, catching a 60-yard pass. Two defensive linemen were also recognized – sophomore Nick Fickes (Imler, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) and junior Zachary Ruggles (Salem, OH/West Branch). Fickes had 35 tackles, 7.5 for loss and Ruggles had 36, five for loss. Both finished with 3.5 sacks.

Geneva finished its season with an overall record of 2-8, 1-7 in conference.
