Steubenville, OH – Geneva women’s basketball team earned its first win of the season at Franciscan Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes defeated the Barons 66-60, raising their overall record to 1-2.

“It was a gritty win,” said head coach Lori Wynn.

“We had to defend, get stops and rebounds to win. We did those things and won.”

Four Golden Tornadoes showered the scoreboard scoring in double figures. Senior Heidi Mann (Colorado Springs, CO/Evangelical Christian Academy) led the team in points and rebounds with 18 points and nine rebounds.  Freshman Jodi Carlson (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw) scored 14 points followed by juniors Marissa Heaney (New Castle PA/Union) with 11, Miranda Heaney (New Castle PA/Union) with 10.

Franciscan was led by Iliana Gonzales with 29 points, seven rebounds.

While most of campus will be traveling to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, Geneva will host Pitt-Greensburg in its season opener on Saturday, November 28 at 2 p.m.

“We scrimmaged twice on road and had three games away so it will be nice to be home,” said Wynn.
