Bethany Outlasts Geneva, 79-74

Geneva

Beaver Falls, PA – Playing without leading scorer Chaese Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH/ Lake) due to an injury, Geneva held a 42-37 lead at the half over Bethany before falling, 79-74.

Chris Dean (Florence, SC/ King's Academy) started for Vaudrin and gave Geneva its first lead at 18-16 on a three-pointer, assisted by Ethan Adamczyk (Uniontown, OH/ Lake). In the second half, though, Geneva’s frenzied play lost steam while Bethany caught fire. The loss drops Geneva’s record to 2-16 overall, 2-9 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

In addition to missing Vaudrin’s 19.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, Geneva was at a definite disadvantage in the paint as Bethany scored 52 if its points in the paint and out- rebounding the Golden Tornadoes 44-34.

“We made some mistakes in the end of the game,” said head coach Jeff Santarsiero.

“But I am very pleased with our efforts. We were understaffed with Chaese out. They are a very athletic team. It was a good foundation to build on for the last three weeks of the season.”

Jimmy Leichliter (Connellsville, PA/ Connellsville) led Geneva’s offensive efforts with 28 points while Adamczyk racked up 24 points.

Leichliter, Adamczyk and Matt Dragan (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) each grabbed eight rebounds to lead Geneva. Vaudrin is expected to return before the end of the season.

Saturday, January 30 Geneva travels to Saint Vincent, tip-off at 6 p.m.
