Opportunities for Students to Serve Locally

Beaver Falls

The Center for Student Engagement announces opportunities for involvement in the Beaver Falls community.

Building UP occurs on Tuesdays at the Beaver Falls Library from 4-6 p.m. Students assist children involved with TRAILS Ministries on various building and architecture projects. Participants must have clearances to work with children. This project is perfect for those who love engineering or simply love working with children.

The Center for Creative Arts and Expression holds open creative time on Thursdays staring at 1 p.m. Students have the opportunity to create crafts, paint and sculpt with others in the community. There is an additional cost involved for materials.

Also on Thursdays, from 6:15-6:30 p.m., the Providence Care Center holds activity nights, which are opportunities to get to take part in activities with the residents.

In addition a variety of one-time opportunities are planned for February.

  • Habitat for Humanity is holding a work day at the local ReStore site on Saturday, February 20.
  • A city council meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 23 at 7 p.m. All Beaver Falls citizens are welcome, including students. The meeting provides a unique chance for students to see what is going on in the city.
  • February’s Produce for People event will take place on Saturday, February 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Beaver Falls Middle School. The program distributes fresh produce to the local community.
  • A Neighborhood Watch meeting will occur on Monday, February 29 at 7 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church. Students will have the opportunity to hear speakers express local concerns.

Looking ahead one month, planning has begun for the March Eggstravaganza, an event for Tiger Pause that occurs on campus. Students can help plan by contacting Michelle Cantrell.

For the next school year, students can sign up for Big Brothers Big Sisters to serve as mentors for young people from the community and help them grow in Christ. And City House applications for the next semester are also available. City House is a living option where students live in the Beaver Falls community and fellowship with a tight knit group of fellow students.
