Youngstown, OH – In their second year competing at the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Meet, the Geneva men’s track and field team placed third on Thursday, February 25 after 15 events were scored. The team was also recognized with the PAC Sportsmanship Award for the indoor track season at the meet. Once again, the men’s track and field team had a solid performance as their indoor season has its final conference meet of the season.

“The team had a great day finishing third overall,” said head coach Phil Thompson. “This team has worked hard all season and it paid off. Everyone had a great performance at the biggest meet and I am very proud of their results.”

The 60 meter dash was a strong event for the Golden Tornadoes as they had three runners contribute points to the team total. Junior Cameron Unrath (Wexford, PA / Pine Richland) finished third with a time of 7.14 seconds. Freshman Henry Kennedy (Titusville, PA / Titusville) finished sixth in 7.26 seconds and sophomore Aaron Tedys (Beaver Falls, PA / Riverside) finished seventh in 7.86 seconds.

Tedys reset Geneva’s school record in the 400 meter with a time of 49.49 seconds.

In the mile run, sophomore Clay Smith (Williamsport, MD / Williamsport) finished fifth with a time of 4:33.15.

Freshman distance runner Josh Duffie (Canton, OH / Glenoak) continues to be strong performer as he finished fourth in the 5,000 Meter run with a time of 15:39.29.

Junior Dalton Paxson (Rochester, PA) came in second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.62 seconds, resetting Geneva’s school record and qualifying for the ECAC postseason. Freshmen Alex Parker (Meadville, PA / Meadville) also placed fifth with a time of 8.89.

The Golden Tornadoes’ relay teams also impressed with the 4x400 meter relay placing fourth with a time of 3:25.56. The Distance Medley relay placed third in the meet, missing the old school record by .01 of a second.

The jumpers for Geneva also contributed as sophomore Jacob Feeney (Hermitage, PA / Kennedy Catholic) finished third in the high jump at 1.78 meters. Freshman Dom McVay (Fredrick, MD / Walkersville High) finished second in the triple jump event by jumping 12.71 meters.

The throwers also contributed points as sophomore Colton Trammel (Macedon, NY / Victor Central) finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 13.45 meters. Junior Isaac Barringer (Delta, OH / Toledo Christian) came in fourth with his throw of 12.93 meters in the weight throw event.

While conference indoor track is over, some of the Geneva track and field student-athletes qualified over the course of the season for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) post-season indoor season meet in Staten Island, New York on March 4th.
