Geneva Baseball Splits with Norwich

Geneva

Vero Beach, FL – Continuing in its spring break Florida trip, the Geneva baseball team split their double-header with Norwich on Saturday March 12. Norwich got the edge on Geneva in the bottom of the third scoring the only three runs in the 3-0 win. Geneva came back strongly in the second game, 4-0, to split with Norwich. The split moves Geneva’s overall record to 3-2.

“We had two well played games today,” said head coach Alan Sumner. “Our pitching has been strong all week and Ian, Josh, and Jeff kept it going today. Finally broke through with some key hits in game two.”

Senior Ian Macdonald (Grantham, PA/West Shore Christian Academy) took the loss in the first game as he lasted six innings - walking three, striking out four, and allowing three runs.

The second game proved to be a different story for the Golden Tornadoes as they won in seven innings behind Joey Luciana, who went 2-3. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the fifth inning.

Josh Glover (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) looked sharp on the rubber. Norwich University managed just four hits off of Glover, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during his five innings of work.

The GTs never surrendered the lead after the fourth inning, scoring one run on an RBI single by senior Zach Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian).

Geneva built upon its lead with three runs in the fifth. Luciana's double got things going, scoring senior JC Ackerman (Lewis Center, OH/Worthington Christian) and freshman Mark Overmier (Crofton, MD/Mount St. Joseph).

Geneva baseball will head back out onto the field Monday March 14 against Kenyon College at 10 a.m. and noon.
