Fort Myers, FL – Softball started early Saturday morning first facing the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth campus at 9 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. game against Wisconsin Superior. Geneva’s offense overcame UMass Dartmouth 6-4 but defense couldn’t hold on in game two against Wisconsin Superior dropping a 8-0 five inning game. The split moves Geneva’s overall record to 5-3.

UMass Dartmouth opened scoring in game one with two runs off three hits in the top of the second.

Geneva’s Lucia Fee (Wampum, PA/Mohawk) opened the bottom of the second with a double to left field setting up the Golden Tornadoes for a rally.

With bases loaded and no outs, Taylor Yarletts (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) smacked one to right field in a RBI single bringing the score to 2-1.

Ashley Grow (Beaver, OH/Waverly) continued the rally with a RBI single to center field brining home Laura Beck (Canfield, OH/Canfield), tying the game 2-2.

Dayna Hicks (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) battle at the plated earned a walk brining home Laura Innocenzi (Cortland, OH/Lakeview) for the 3-2 lead.

Geneva added to its lead with a two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. The 6-2 lead was enough to last UMASS Dartmouth two run rally in the seventh for the 6-4 final.

On the mound, Emily Keslar (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Connellsville) earned the win.

In game two, Geneva’s offense was silence and defense tied giving up six runs in the third and two more in the fourth. Wisconsin Superior held Geneva to one hit ending the game in five innings.

Keslar took the loss, finishing the day with a 5-3 pitching record.

Yarletts finished the day with a historic mark in the program’s record book. She set a school record by reaching base in 14 consecutive plate appearances.

"I think we just ran out of gas in game two," said head coach Van Zanic. "It's been a long 48 hours and we just weren't able to finish the deal today. It's been a good first week and hopefully we can cap off the trip with a solid day on Monday."

Monday, March 12 the Golden Tornadoes face Curry College at 9 a.m., Alfred College at 11 a.m. before heading back north to campus.
