International Music Festival Registration is Open

International Music Festival

International Music FestivalThe Geneva College International Music Festival, which will take place July 18-22, 2016, provides high quality music instruction for instrumentalists and vocalists from all over the world in grades 1-12. Registrants participate in comprehensive masterclasses, theory and aural skills sessions and story-telling history lessons, taught by experienced artists from around the world.

Along with extensive learning opportunities, overnight students engage in college-life activities, including staying in one of Geneva’s residence halls, eating meals at Alexander Dining Hall and learning about college life with on-campus counselors.

International students are also provided English as a Second Language (ELS) courses, and visit local attractions in the Greater Pittsburgh area.

Dr. Sha Wang, Associate Professor of Music and Director of the International Music Festival, says that this is a special opportunity for students wishing to develop their music skills and talents. “This is the first year that we will be open to musical talent from every instrument and voice, which will allow us to broaden our focus on integrating students from the community and from around the world with different musical backgrounds.”

Students from all levels may participate in a recital competition at the conclusion of the festival. Those who wish to compete must prepare two solo pieces of contrasting styles and perform them from memory. Participants are organized by level: primary (entering first through third grade), elementary (entering fourth through sixth grade), junior (entering seventh through tenth grade) and senior (entering eleventh or twelfth grade). Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place competitors.

Registration and tuition for commuting students is $220. Lunches and snacks are provided at an additional $25.

Registration and Tuition for overnight students is $220 plus $350 for room/board.

Participants living in the United States should complete an application as either a commuter or an overnight student at www.geneva.edu/dept/music/international-music-festival/index.

The application deadline for commuting and overnight students is June 1, 2016.

For international students, different packages with tour options and plane ticket options are available. Contact Dr. Wang at shawang@geneva.edu for details.
