Early Lead Doesn’t Last Against Saint Vincent

team

Beaver Falls, PA –Geneva baseball scored first in a single nine-inning game Friday, April 15, in a home game with the St. Vincent Bearcats. The early lead didn’t last, though, as the Bearcats defeated Geneva 17-4. The loss lowers the Golden Tornadoes 7-18 overall, 2-13 in the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC).

St. Vincent easily handled Geneva’s pitching as six hitters combined for 16 hits, 14 RBIs and 12 runs scored. Geneva jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, however, St. Vincent scoed 14 in the top of the fourth and never looked back.

Drew Nichols (New Wilmington, PA/Wilmington) was charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in 3 1/3 innings, walked no one, and struck out one.

Two Golden Tornado runs crossed the plate in the bottom half of the eighth, making the score 17-4. A wild pitch and a groundout provided the runs, but it would not be enough.

Geneva College will have the chance to strike back at St. Vincent College as they travel there on Saturday April 16 for their double-header games at 1 and 3 p.m.
