Baseball Closes Season at Westminster

baseball

New Wilmington, PA - Geneva baseball traveled to Westminster College on Saturday,to face its archrival in a seven inning double header to cap off the end of the 2016 season. Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes were unable to end on a positive note, dropping both games by scores of 8-1 and 7-6, respectively. The losses move Geneva’s season President’s Athletic Conference record to 4-20 and their overall record to 13-25.

The fist came was a fairly straightforward 8-1 loss as Westminster was dominant offensively all game, scoring in the first, third, fourth, and sixth innings. Geneva’s lone run would come in the top of the third on a passed ball.

Drew Nichols (New Wilmington, PA/Wilmington) was charged with the loss as he allowed seven runs and two walks in 4 2/3 innings.

Game two was a different story as Geneva took the Titans into extra innings in the nine-inning 7-6 loss. Westminster scored first but Geneva gained the lead in the sixth as Andy Santana (San Pedro de Marcoris, DR/Desert Christian) racked up two RBIs on a home run for Geneva – he also singled in the ninth.

Geneva added runs in the fifth and ninth innings. In the fifth, the Golden Tornadoes, a groundout by Joe Galante (Emsworth, PA/Avonworth), brought home Richie Rowe (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk). Unfortunately, Westminster ended the Geneva season in the ninth inning, scoring two runs on two singles.

Branden Schlick (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
