New Wilmington, PA – On Saturday, April 16 the Geneva men’s track team traveled to Westminster College to compete in the Westminster Invitational. There were several President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) teams present as well as other local schools, such as Carnegie Mellon University and Slippery Rock University. Against this tough competition, the Golden Tornadoes were able to place higher than fellow PAC team Waynesburg University in their twelfth place finish.

“This team has had a great outdoor season so far and it continued at the Westminster Meet,” said head coach Phil Thompson. “We had a lot of PRs and some top 5 finishes at a meet with over 25 teams.”

Jacob Mellinger (Leetonia, OH / Crestview) ran third in the 400m race with a time of 48.82seconds as well as having a fourth place finish in the 200m in 22.22 seconds.

“Jacob Mellinger had a great meet with a PR in the 400 with a time of 48.82, which ranks him in the top 30 in the NCAA D3,” commented Thompson.

Dalton Paxson (Rochester, PA / - - -) also had a noteworthy performance on Saturday. He finished in fourth place in the 110 high hurdle event with a time of 15.68. This time would be enough to qualify him for end of season meet, Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) track meet.

Cam Unrath (Wexford, PA / Pine Richland) competed in the 100m race and placed sixth with a time of 11.24 seconds.

Junior Thrower Isaac Barringer (Delta, OH / Toledo Christian) finished 7th in the Discus event with his throw of 41.03m (134 foot-7). This beat every other thrower in the PAC but one from Washington and Jefferson College.

Jacob Ames (Erie, PA / PA Cyber) was one of 25 in the steeple chase event. He finished seventh with a time of 10:15.89.

“This was a great day for the team. They really went after it today and they got some great results,” said coach Thompson.

The men’s track and field team will hope to continue its hot streak as they compete on Thursday, April 21 at the Slippery Rock University Open at 10 a.m.
