New Wilmington, PA – On Saturday, April 16 the Geneva women’s track team traveled to Westminster College to compete in the Westminster Invitational. There were several President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) teams present as well as other local schools such as Carnegie Mellon University and Slippery Rock University. Against this tough competition, the Golden Tornadoes were able to place higher than fellow PAC teams - Waynesburg, Chatham, Bethany, Washington and Jefferson, Thiel, St. Vincent, and Grove City with their twelfth place finish.

“This team has had a great outdoor season so far and it continued at the Westminster Meet, said head coach Phil Thompson. “We had a lot of PRs and some top 5 finishes at a meet with over 25 teams.”

One of those top 5 finishes was the women’s 4x100M relay. This relay team placed second with a time of 49.23. The team includes Nicole Bartoletta (Monaca, PA / Central Valley), Sarah Klein (Columbus, IN / Columbus East), Kailee Loose (Beaver, PA / Beaver), and Jess Kelosky (Fombell, PA / Riverside).

“The women’s 4x100 team continued to perform at a high level,” remarked coach Thompson about his relay team.

Bartoletta continued her strong track meet for the Golden Tornadoes as she also finished fifth in the 100 hurdles event with a time of 15.70.

Kelosky (Fombell, PA / Riverside) also performed well in her individual event, placing sixth in the 100m race with a time of 12.71.

The women’s field team also had strong performers as Sarah Foy (Rockwood, PA / Rockwood Area) would throw for the seventh place finish in the shot put event with a distance of 11.33m (37-foot-2 inches).

Rebekah Rupert (Greenville, PA / Greenville) also contributed with her fifth place finish in javelin throw with a distance of 33.47m (109-10).

“This was a great day for the team. They really went after it today and they got some great results,” said Thompson

The women’s track and field team will hope to continue their hot streak as they compete on Thursday, April 21 at the Slippery Rock University Open at 10 a.m.
