Dr. Troup explains, “Our mission statement sums up why Geneva College needs to exist in our world today—Pro Christo et Patria, which begins with Christ. We are dedicated to follow Christ through meaningful cultural engagement, to help our students develop the mind of Christ, and to equip them for faithful and fruitful lives of service to God and neighbor. I am excited to take this position as President of Geneva at a time of real opportunity as well as real challenges, because what we do here is important.”

Dr. Troup, a 1983 graduate of Geneva with a bachelor’s degree in speech communication, worked in public, corporate and academic settings before returning to Geneva. Most recently, he was at Duquesne University’s Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies where he directed the university’s nationally-ranked Rhetoric Ph.D. Program. Duncan Hunter, and an executive for the National Association of Life Underwriters in Washington, D.C.  He earned a master’s degree (1991) and a Ph.D. (1994) from Pennsylvania State University.  He has been published extensively, particularly on the communication topics including rhetoric and religion; and the intersection of communication technology, human consciousness and culture.  He also served on the Board of Directors and Board of Corporators for Geneva College for many years.

The Inauguration Ceremony will include an Investiture and Charge to the President by Chair of Geneva’s Board of Trustees Joye Huston, and Presentation of Medallion by Chair of Geneva’s Board of Corporators Steve McMahon. The community will begin the inauguration celebration with a service of Christian worship on Thursday, September 22 at 7 p.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse.  Homecoming & Family Weekend festivities will continue following the inauguration on Friday through Saturday, September 24.
